I). What are the Precepts?

The Buddha’s precepts
Preserving is keeping tight, Precepts are things that are forbidden to be done, must not be violated, Tri is to practice the rules set by the Buddha for Buddhist monks to practice while exercising, and for Buddhists at Gia apply in life to have a good experience and enjoy proper karmic retribution; thanks to keeping the precepts stable, why? Because if one does not follow the teachings as a murderer of the robbery, for example, his mind, of course, will have to waver strongly if not confused, so he cannot calm down, so the precepts are calm; the spirit determined to be born a newborn, a new hue eradicates the ignorance, and when the end of innocence will end samsara, that is, the mind of awareness, the Buddha’s enlightenment.

The Buddha’s precepts are not to punish those who do not perform, but to help those who practice sincerely will enjoy excellent results; The teachings only intended to make the Buddha’s disciples quickly attain holy fruit while practising spiritually.

II) – How many rules of discipline are there? There are three types:

 1) – Precepts for the lay Buddhists (Laypeople):

Buddhists at home include male and female laity; lay Buddhists have the precepts: the Five Precepts, the Eight Precepts of the Precepts and the Bodhisattva Precepts for both the lay and ordained Buddhists.

1- Five precepts: Buddhists at home can keep from one to five rules are: 1- No killing, 2- No robbery, 3- No adultery, 4- No lying, 5- No drinking. Has been carefully analyzed in the article “What is a Buddhist, the Five Precepts”.

2-men gender precepts (eight doors): Quan is the door, boys afternoon to eat. The eight doors that prevent the eight sinful things are 1- No killing, 2- No robbery, 3- No lust, (rather than not adultery), 4- No lying, 5- No drinking, 6- Do not wear makeup, sing or attend a fun, 7. Do not sit in a luxuriously warm place (to prevent the happiness and excitement), 8- Be vegetarian not too late at night (to prevent drowsiness), sick and easily minded). From the eight door precepts within 24 hours, a full day only,

one should take the teachings at the temple, once they understand the program and the ritual, they can take the ordination at home; should arrange to receive the teachings about once a month, on the eighth, fourteenth, fifteenth day, etc., if the circumstances are convenient, take as many times as possible. While the eight door life, the body and mind of the practitioner is pure, although only 24 hours but very precious, more than a lifetime of austerities; This issue carefully analyzed in “Eight

 2) – Precepts for Buddhist monks:

There are four types of renunciant Buddhists: Sa Di, Sa Di Ni, Bhikkhu, and Bhikshuni.

 1. novice and novice monks newly ordained men and women who must observe the ten precepts, including
1. No killing,
2- No stealing,
3 – No sexuality,
4- No lying,
5- No drinking alcohol,
6- Do not wear makeup,
7- Do not sing or attend fun events,
8- Do not lie in a comfortable and luxurious place,
9- Be vegetarian and do not exceed noon, 10- Do not use gold and silver treasure.

2 – Bhikkhus: A monk must keep 250 precepts, including the teachings for Sa Di.

3 – Bhikkhuni Bhikkhuni: A nun must keep 348 precepts, including the rules for novices and monks.

There is also a kind of Buddhist monk, that is a person under age, not a novice or novice monk, keeping six precepts and practising 296 morality.

The precepts for monks and nuns are numerous and detailed, cannot be written here; These precepts are barriers that do not allow monks to work to help monks not to be caught in the affairs of the world so that the mind can be calm and peaceful, which will bring the practitioner to liberation. Such as participating in protests in opposition, discussing political issues more controversially than losing, adoption, trafficking, etc.; real spiritual practitioners never do those things, because when they make the mind, they will be so busy with those things that they cannot calmly practice.

 3) – Bodhisattva’s precepts: Bodhisattva’s rules are familiar to both lay Buddhists and renunciant Buddhists, Buddhists who develop the mind of practising the Bodhisattva conduct to broaden their status as Buddhas and transform beings. Bodhisattva world includes:

1-Photography rules about gender: The life of the Bodhisattva’s precepts is determined to keep 12 essential doctrines and 48 contradictory teachings, that is, the resolve not to commit any evil deeds.

2-good photography France: The life of the Bodhisattva’s precepts is determined to do all the good deeds.

3-Many useful worldly situation: The life of the Bodhisattva’s life is determined to cultivate compassion and joy, and to do all the benefits for all sentient beings, not a single species, without any chemical transformation.

III). What is the world like? There are two ways:

 1) – Maintain the precepts of the Prime Minister: Preserve the teachings for being praise by others, for being press or respect by others, because of competition or pride in observing the precepts; Such kind of lessons, only superficial, reluctant, egotistical, deceiving others, such morality has no benefit, because of the evil inner pollution.

 2) – Tri-generals: Tri-World did not accept generals, according to the Buddha’s teachings that implemented, not because of the name or being forced, not because of competition that maintained the precepts. While observing the rules, we do not think that we are better than people or have thoughts of disdain for transgressors, but only thinking of following the precepts is our duty not to practice; maintain the teachings with the mind like that is the vast precepts (La La Secret).

In the A Hamlet Book 2, page 609 and volume 3, page 551, the Buddha taught the practitioner: “It is better to sleep and not to stay awake while thinking crazy thoughts. It is better to use hot iron on the eyes, not because of the lousy beauty that disturbs the view, it is better to use the pointed stick to pierce the ears, not to hear the wrong or bad sounds, but to start the idea, instead to use the hot pliers to cut the nostrils. Smelling that love, hate it, instead use a sharp knife to cut the tongue, rather than say evil, it is better to use red copper leaf wrapped around the body, not to start lewd. “

Page 550 The Buddha taught, “If the person who observes the precepts decreases, the evil people emerge, then the Dharma dharma gradually decays, the illegal dharma increases and all sentient beings will fall into three evil paths. If the person who observes the precepts fully, the transgression falls, the righteousness flourishes, sentient beings therein, when the ordinary life is born in Heaven and the human realm. “

 IV). Problems for cultivators:

The Buddha’s precepts set out only for the benefit of those who practice the teachings and cultivators to attain good results quickly; Buddha’s discipline does not set the subject of punishing those who do not obey, whether they do it or not, it is up to the mind to take care of it. As in the world: living in moderation and honesty praised by many, while the living is indulgent, undisciplined, troubling, deceived, punished by the law, and people decry.

For austerities, observing the precepts fully will be as bright as the moon in the night between stars. As for those who do not follow the rules, there will be many harmful as:

First: Other people who see him violating the world will criticize and shun.

Second: If no-one sees, no-one hears him committing an offence, but he has transgressed, he will be ashamed of himself.

Third: If he is not ashamed of himself, he will never be able to cultivate to where he is, in the end, he will hang around in samsaric existence.

For example, a male monk often talks with a woman, meets and walks together many times; this can be called close; outsiders will be suspicious, asking why these two people regularly meet? No matter how sincere that person is, the Buddha prohibited individual contact between man and woman; The Buddha prohibited such a way to prevent “the fire near the straw will last for a long time”, just as the fire near the gasoline will burn quickly.

A practitioner not allowed to have much contact with the same gender, to reduce this and that, he has to preserve the six faculties of eyes, ears, nose, mouth, body and mind, not to run away, or to attach to the six senses. Is colour, sound, flavour, taste, touch and dharma; so that the mind is calm, natural to go to purity, so people who have an attachment, practice will not help.

Someone said, “Why is there a spiritual practitioner doing bad communication; there is a spiritual practitioner who is only concerned about working life without worrying about cultivation, and does not see anyone saying anything, does he continue to be so blatant?” The answer is that Buddhism does not advocate to punish anyone, if they know that the other person makes a mistake, violates the world, then decry, alienate, not punish. Because of this, he continues his way, causing himself to the consequences that after death she will be reborn in the underworld; However, right now, some believers in the world believe, this is a difficult problem because these believers do not see him as transgressive, do not see him doing wrong. ), so even though others noted that they still did not listen, and always believed in supporting the transgressor.

The only thing is that if a monk wants to be close to the opposite sex, wants to work in life; then the Buddha allows him to take off his clothes and wear his life, to become an average person in society. He is married, working in real life like any other citizen, the problem will be solved easily; but when he takes off his monk’s robes, becomes an ordinary person, no longer valid, because his words have little effect on others. Therefore, he tries to cling to the monk’s robes to take advantage of the shirt to serve himself; he lives like a bookworm, if not quickly repentance of timely correction until death will surely enter the evil world, then there is no time to regret anymore!

V). Some cases of Buddha taught:

 1) – Twenty-one links: In Sangha, vol. 1, page 168, the Buddha said, “If anyone has a mind of attachment to 21 results: Anger (anger), loss (damage), sleeping ( Thuy mien), frolicking (sneezing), doubting, ferocious (wrathing), fearing (cavalry), sadness (brain), jealousy (disability), bitterness (tingling), not being ashamed of yourself (immoral) ), not ashamed of (selfish) people, pretending to be (impulse), deceiving, opposing (puppet), scrambling, arrogant, unruly (chronic), jealousy, arrogant (arrogant) ), greed; This person must not be able to bear a good life, such as a worn-out old coat full of dust, if you want to dye blue, yellow, it cannot be done.

On the contrary, if someone who does not have the above 21 results attach to his / her mind, he/she will be born in Heaven, such as a white, clean, dust-free white gown.

 2) – Example of animals: Also in volume 1, page 206, taking examples of animals to refer to comparing with cultivators, the Buddha said:

1- Kià, why call people like crows?

As there are people in the quiet, constant exercise, doing evil deeds, covering up these evil deeds; It is like the raven starving, eating the filthy things, and wiping off the beak, afraid of other birds, saying that the crow ate the greasy food; he criticized, shunned by others, after shame and remorse, he was like a raven.

2- Why is it called a pig-like person?

If someone is in a secluded place, practising prostitution, doing evil deeds, there is no need to cover up his evil deeds; this person is like a pig, regularly eating greasy food, lying in a messy, rotten place, and wandering around with other pigs; people who exercise and do evil deeds are criticized shamelessly, without remorse, for others who also tribute to themselves as “I’m here happy”, this is someone like a pig, should away from this person.

3- How to call someone like a donkey?

As there are renunciants who study, there are organic impurities, pursue everything, give birth to delusions, an evil that is enough, and claim to be: “I am also a cultivator.” This man likens a donkey to a buffalo herd and says, “I am a buffalo”, but seeing the ears is not the same as the buffalo, the horn is not the same, the tail is not the same, the sound is also different. Now, the buffalo or the horns, or kicking the feet, orbiting mouth; this practitioner is also like that, the impurities,

if the eyes see colours, according to the idea of colours, roam all the time, produce the thoughts of delusion, the evil comes enough, cannot be protected. Headphones sound, nose smells, tongue tasting, body touch, the legal sense (all things), according to which the idea of wandering in the world, creating the chaos. The evil arises enough, unable to keep the mind pure. People with virtue (True Cultivation) see criticism: “Wow: This fool is like a cultivator, if he/she is a practitioner, he shouldn’t be like that”; This person is like a donkey, you should be separated from this person.

4- The other person is like a buffalo?

If someone is a monk, preserving the six eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind, he does not allow him to follow the six sensual emotions; mind not disturbance is pure, immediately to the place of virtue (pattern). The virtuous ones see the other; everyone cried out: “Welcome fellow Buddha class”. For example, buffaloes into buffaloes, with ears, horns, tails, sounds are true buffaloes; and the buffaloes in the herd saw it, and each one came and licked his head; this is a buffalo-like person, should be a learner like a buffalo, but not a human-like crow, pigs, or donkeys.

 BECAUSE of). Practical benefits?

Buddhists who take the precepts strictly will be at peace and respected by everyone as a shining example for reflection; practitioners of solemnity will lead to a pure mind, which is very beneficial to practitioners while practising spiritually; If this life has not seen the sign, the next life will attain Bodhisattva escaping samsara.

The worldly precepts that lie in the Six Senses are almsgiving, moral discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, which have supremacy far above that of almsgiving; almsgiving without maintaining the precepts, cannot progress, why? Because both are creating blessed by alms, both creating sins by not observing the rules, that is just creating blessed creating crimes, good and evil mixed enough like that, how to step up to the Holy?

When the practitioner maintains the precepts leading to a pure mind, he will generate compassion and joy, so when he sees the salesman immediately happily praises that merit, so is “according to the merit of giving”; Practitioners when observing the precepts strictly, others recognise that imitating, thus using “religion” to give alms.

So: maintaining the vast precepts (Paramita) is a miraculous method that can include alms and morality, inevitably bringing the practitioner to the shore of liberation.

In summary, we see the benefits of such great precepts; now, only one thing is that we must decide to develop broad teachings (Paramita) decisively. When the mind has arisen, you have to practice until you arrive, because you have to practice (to study) when you have learned and to practice,
if you study without training, as well as a paddle, a pot containing words; without studying is flawed, without practising (practising) is useless, what is the use?
